The 2013 Deaconess GLVC Basketball Championship tournament wrapped up Sunday night at the Ford Center.
Organizers say the several thousand fans who came to cheer on their teams, helped make the event a success.
The tourney's been at Roberts Stadium in the past, most recently in 2007. This was its first year back in Evansville since then and the first year for it at the Ford Center.
The Evansville Sports Corporation hosted the tournament and says more than 6,000 people came to watch teams like USI and Kentucky Wesleyan play.
They say that attendance was considerably larger than what it has been at the GLVC tournament when its been in other cities in years past.
Tournament officials tell 14 News that everyone from GLVC Commissioners to athletic directors, coaches and players had positive things to say about the event.
In addition to the tournament itself, there was a Family Fun Fest on Saturday outside the Ford Center and a crawl to encourage people to visit different restaurants and bars downtown.
14 News spoke with people at a couple of the businesses on main who say the tournament gave them some extra business.
"It's a perfect opportunity to bring in more visitors to our community. The more events we have, the more other sporting events will take notice that our community not only handles these things, but we handle them and our community really embraces them and welcomes them," said Becky Kasha with Evansville Sports Corporation.
Next year, there's more hoops to look forward to. The Ford Center will host the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Division Two Tournament.
The next big thing on the agenda for the Evansville Sports Corporation is the United Leasing Championship at Victoria National this summer.
