A bus carrying choir students from Kentucky Wesleyan College was involved in an accident Sunday night in Chattanooga.
Our NBC affiliate WRCB-TV reported 16 people were hurt when their bus went airborne.
We're now told by local dispatchers that the number of victims is 22.
Officials tell WRCB that faulty brakes caused the vehicle carrying 40 people, including the driver, to veer off the side of Signal Mountain Boulevard during an attempt to slow it down.
The bus was propelled over a hill on the side of the road.
Officials say several people were taken to multiple hospitals in the area. 14 News is told none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
The choir students were on a Spring Break tour.
There have been many posts on Facebook about the accident. In one post from Calvin David Malone he says he's thankful God spared the lives of his mom and sister and is glad that everyone else is okay.
Calvin's sister, Emily Malone, says she and her mom have been discharged from the hospital. To give you an idea of the injuries sustained in the accident, Emily tells us she has a swollen elbow and knee and her mom has a broken nose.
She thanks everyone for their prayers.
We're told that tour has now been canceled and the students will head back to Owensboro on Monday.
