Sen. Ford: Other candidates "might be better" than Ashley Judd

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The political world is buzzing with word that actress Ashley Judd is planning to announce a run for the U.S. Senate this spring, possibly just before The Kentucky Derby when the national spotlight is on Kentucky.

Judd is said to have been talking with key Kentucky Democrats over the past several weeks about a run that would put her up against Republican Senator Mitch McConnell.

It's been reported that Wendell Ford, one of Kentucky's longest serving U.S. Senators has met with Judd.

"McConnell seems to be worried about it," said former Senator Ford.

"He's raised so much money and already started some spots against her or some of his friends have started some spots against her," he said.  "I think that helps her because it shows that he might be worried about her."

Senator Ford went on to say, "I think there's maybe some other candidates out there that might be better, with political experience, with some background.  She's a smart woman, apparently."

Other Kentucky Democrats have expressed concern about Judd jumping into the Senate race.
