EXCLUSIVE: Victim of Mission Viejo home invasion speaks out about his attack

Posted: Updated:

In a 14 News exclusive, the man beaten outside his apartment at the Mission Viejo Apartments, says he was just trying to help and do the right thing.

Although there is a $2,000 in the case, police are apparently still baffled with no leads or suspects.

The victim, Rami Jawabreh, tells us two women knocked on the door around 1:30 in the morning. He was sleeping and says his girlfriend woke him up. He looked through the peep hole and saw the women, so he opened the door.

He says he thought the women were either lost or needed help.

They asked for a man that was unfamiliar to him and told them they had the wrong apartment.

He started to close the door and that's when two men appeared.

"When I went to close the door, that's when the door got kicked in, and that's where the battle began. One guy tried to come in so I grabbed the guy up after he hit me right here and grabbed it up and took it outside and that's when the other guy started beating at me," Jawabreh said.

Jawabreh said he thought he was doing the right thing by helping the women out and says next time he'll think twice about opening his door.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Vanderburgh County Sheriff.
