DAVIESS COUNTY, KY (WFIE) -

Representatives from Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville will be in Daviess County for a special safety event.

As we head into spring, that means you'll probably be seeing lots of students riding their bikes to school again.

Thursday morning, Audubon Elementary School in Daviess County will host a bicycle safety rodeo.

It starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 1:45 p.m.

The goal is to teach third, fourth, and fifth graders about bicycle safety.

They'll learn about things like the rules of the road and will actually get to ride their bikes through situations they might run into when they're out and about.

Students will also talk about turn signals and how to safely cross streets and railroad tracks.

One the biggest things organizers plan to stress is the importance of wearing helmets.

They know that it can sometimes be difficult to get students to wear helmets, but will remind them that they could save their lives in certain situations.

Today's event also encourages students to get outside and be active, especially with warmer temperatures hopefully right around the corner.
