RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Rusk County authorities said a court date of April 23 is now set for Glenn Douglas Barton, a minister at Calvary Way Pentecostal Church who was arrested for allegedly sexually assault a child.
He is now out on a $50,000 bond with conditions.
Barton was arrested March 5, following a two week investigation by the Kilgore Police Department.
KLTV had the only cameras in the courtroom for Barton's arraignment in Kilgore.
"The investigation went on for two weeks. There was enough information collected for a warrant to be obtained. The detective filled out an affidavit and applied for a warrant. A warrant was issued for this gentleman's arrest," said Captain Roman Roberson with the Kilgore Police Department.
The investigation included recorded audio conversations between the victim and Barton.
The affidavit states that Barton is recorded as saying,"I expect you to do what we've always done and that's cover for each other."
The statement was followed by Barton asking the victim if he was being recorded.
It was enough information to put Barton behind bars in Rusk County.
The arrest affidavit says the victim interviewed with the Rusk County Children's Advocacy Center on February 21, but according to the affidavit, the assault started long before this complaint was filed.
The victim stated in the affidavit that Barton began the sexual assault in 2009, when the victim was younger than 14.
According to the arrest affidavit, the sexual assault continued on a regular basis through 2010 and 2011.
The members of the church said Barton's attorney advised them not to make a comment on his arrest at this time.
Barton's bond is set at $50,000 with conditions that he cannot have any overnight travel, he must reside within 30 miles of Henderson and he must appear at all court proceedings.
Kilgore police said the investigation has not revealed any other victims, but the investigation is ongoing
