Demolition is underway on the old Baldwin Heights Elementary School.
Hazex of Henderson had the final bid just shy of $81,000.
The North Gibson School Corporation says the building was becoming a liability and a safety hazard.
"This whole neighborhood has been involved with Baldwin Heights. There used to be a smaller building here. A lot of us went through Kindergarten to 5th grade here. When they had the new school consolidated, it was Kindergarten through 8th grade. There won't be a school here anymore. There's just no identity to this area anymore. It's just another neighborhood," said Roland Wagner, who went to the school.
The entire building should be down by the end of the week, and by the end of March, the site will be a grassy field. The school board still owns the property.
