HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -
With a little help from the Henderson County Fiscal Court, the city will be able to purchase land for a new park in the old east end.
County Magistrate Butch Puttman says with abandoned buildings and vacant lots, kids don't have a safe place to play.
The Henderson City Commission agreed to purchase the property, if the court would pay half.
Puttman says the community park will help keep crime down and keep kids active.
"It's needed, it's a step in the right direction for that community and hopefully it's just the first step to kind of bring some life back into the Audubon area," Puttman said.
The city plans to apply for a $40,000 state grant to fund renovations like sidewalks, benches and to purchase playground equipment.
