MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -
Father of two and devoted husband has dreams beyond the life cancer has dealt him.
"I want to walk my daughter down the aisle. I want to see my grandkids."
33-year-old Kevin Offutt was diagnosed with grade 2 Astrocytoma, an inoperable brain tumor, in 2010.
A normally healthy, active man and licensed minister was an install sales manager at a local construction supplies store. In 2010 after days of excruciating leg pain, Kevin and wife, Carrie Offutt, visited the hospital. Doctors first hinted at a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, until an MRI revealed a tumor in the section of his brain controlling the legs.
Kevin now lives with extreme pain upon standing, an increased number of seizures, and the daunting task of large amounts of medications.
"I had to come to grips with the fact that I had to use a cane," Kevin explains, "and I had to have others help me. Instead, of doing things for other people."
The Offutt family is grateful for all the community support from fellow church members, to complete strangers. The next step to help combat the painful reminders of cancer is to gain mobility.
The family owns a wheelchair scooter for Kevin so that he can move around and avoid a large amount of pain. However, the family's current automobile doesn't provide the necessary support to load the scooter into the vehicle.
In the next 30 days, the family hopes to raise a $5,000 down payment for a new van.
