Don't mind the rumor mill, Pie Pan isn't going anywhere

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Have you heard a rumor that the Pie Pan restaurant is closing? The owners say it's just that, a rumor.  

Libby Lear has owned the north side restaurant for more than 30 years and says she was shocked when the phone was ringing off the hook with concerned customers.

Other local business owners even came in asking to purchase fixtures and shelving units. But Libby says the outcry of support for the local favorite has spiked business.

And she says she thinks she knows where the false rumor may have originated.  

"Oh my goodness, there was a restaurant about half a block down that closed about a month ago, and all of a sudden it was like wildfire, it filtered down through this way and I had customers coming in and saying we hear you're closing, it's been overwhelming, it really has, that's why we put a sign out," Lear said.

That sign not only reinforces the fact that they are open, but also that they are thankful for the long time customers.
