VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash which occurred Monday morning in northern Vanderburgh County.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of Old Princeton Rd in reference to a single-vehicle accident.

The vehicle was located north of Schroeder Rd and the driver, 79-year-old Mary Ambrose, had apparently been ejected from the vehicle and was found lying in the field near her vehicle.

Officials say she was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later died from her injuries, described as blunt-force trauma to the chest.

A witness stated that the vehicle driven by Ambrose was traveling southbound on Old Princeton Rd when it passed him on a double-yellow line. In doing so, lost control of her vehicle and it left the roadway left the roadway on the west side of the road. Her vehicle rolled and she was ejected from the vehicle.

Ambrose was the only occupant of the vehicle and she was not using her seat belt.

Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
