Watching For Snow Saturday & Tuesday!

Posted: Updated:

We've got a couple of interesting systems to watch over the next 4 days!  The first one is much less potent than the second.  Saturday's upper level disturbance will bring a few light rain/snow showers to the Upstate and some accumulating snow near the TN border in western NC.  The second system will bring a heavy rain, then POSSIBLE a robust snow.  It's all about an upper low, and those are SO hard to forecast.  The last one burned us badly regarding our forecast.  Here's a model breakdown of what 12z models are showing.

Canadian: Shows very light snow/rain for the Upstate between mid morning and mid afternoon Saturday.  Then shows mostly rain for the Upstate with the system on TUesday/Wednesday.

Euro: Shows scattered show showers in the Upstate for midday Saturday.  I'd say a dusting looks most reasonable with Euro.  For Tuesday it shows some snow in the mountains, but mostly rain in the Upstate.

GFS: Saturday it has light snow/flurries midday for the Upstate.  Tuesday it shows mountains snow and Upstate rain, then ending with a burst of Upstate snow.

Nam: Shows flurries/light rain around midday in the Upstate.

So the trend with this is LIGHT precip for Saturday and heavier for Tuesday.  Midday Saturday will be the Upstate's best bet to see some snowflakes.  Tuesday will bring the Upstate rain, then possibly some snow if the upper low gets cranking behind the surface low.  Moisture could very easily outrun the cold with Tuesday's system, but it's a wait and see kinda thing :)  As with all our long-range forecasts!
