An Evansville business is shutting its doors for the final time after 97 years.
During that time, five generations have worked at Schmitt Photo on the east side.
Schmitt Photo is a family-owned business where many of the customers and staff are on a first name basis.
The owners announced the store would be closing about two months ago.
Over the past five years, they've seen fewer customers because people aren't printing photos as much anymore.
The economy hasn't helped, either.
Co-owner Steve Polley has worked at Schmitt Photo for 45 years and says it's been an emotional day.
"It's not everyday, obviously, that people have to close a business and especially a 97-year-old business," says Polley. "We're surrounded by our friends today, customers that are coming in to say hello and goodbye, have a cookie with us or picking up some last minute supplies. But it's been pretty much non-stop all day."
Schmitt Photo stayed open until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Polley says they'll be in the building for the next few days though not technically open, if customers have any orders they need to pick up.
