Gone Fishin' (in the city)

Posted: Updated:

The DNR's Division of Fish and Wildlife is testing out a new program, and Evansville is among the participating cities.

Dan Carnahan with the DNR says both Garvin Park Lake and Diamond Valley Lake in Evansville will participate in the Go Fishin' In the City program.

They'll be stocking the lakes with both Rainbow Trout and Channel Catfish. The DNR expects to put in around 2,500 fish in the Evansville area.

Carnahan tells 14 News that other states have had success with this program, and that they're hoping it gets people outdoors.

Hobart, Fort Wayne, New Albany, Indianapolis, Carmel, Avon, Lafayette and Terre Haute will also be participating.

The DNR says they'll begin stocking fish sometime in April.
