HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -
Before the bad weather made its way into town on Saturday, the city was busy with a celebration, as the new Holyoke Senior Center held its grand opening.
Hundreds showed up at the facility to join in on the fun with several city and state officials.
The $8.1 million project was years in the making.
The new building replaces the city's old senior center, which was inside the basement of the Holyoke War Memorial building.
Officials said the new center is state-of-the-art.
Seniors who visit the facility will be able to take part in cooking classes, exercise classes and even use a brand new computer lab.
The center has been open for the past three months, but officials waited for all of the furniture to be moved in before holding Saturday's event.
