The automatic federal budget cuts scheduled to kick in next week would have a big impact on the military in Kentucky.
Assistant Secretary of the Army, Katherine Hammack tells 14News that 15,000 military jobs would be affected either by staff reduction or income loss.
The cuts could also lead losses of over $600-milion in annual revenue that's generated by the army in Kentucky.
"The challenge for the army is to try and make sure that the limited dollars we have left are spent in the most appropriate manner," says Hammack.
Congress must approve alternative savings before a deadline of March 1 or about $85-billion in cuts will be automatically triggered.
