Person of interest in woman's death taken into police custody

Evansville Police have taken a 45-year-old David Wayne Royalty into custody. He was a person of interest in a suspicious death that occurred overnight at 233 W. Michigan Apartment C. 

Just after midnight, officers and medical personnel were sent to the W. Michigan address for the report of an unresponsive female. 

When they arrived Medical personnel found the woman dead. She has now been identified as 49-year-old Toni Smith. 

Police say that due to the condition of the woman, and the circumstances surrounding her death, investigators are treating it as suspicious. 

EPD detectives spent the morning searching for David Royalty. We're told they picked him up on the North side of Evansville.

    A pair of Michigan men are being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail after officers found a "plethora of fraudulently contrived credit cards," during a traffic stop, according to the probable cause affidavit.
