Evansville roads crews prep for wintry mix of sleet, snow

With a wintry mix of freezing participation in the forecast, the City of Evansville Street Maintenance Department is pre-treating some of roads in an effort to keep city streets as safe as possible during inclement weather. The main focus has been on known trouble spots, including the Reitz Hill area and hills along Stringtown Road, New Harmony Road and Rosenberger Avenue.

"Pre-treatment works well extremely well in snow," said Transportation & Services Ex. Dir. Todd Robertson. "However, in application with a wintry mix of sleet, snow and rain there is the possibility of some of the material could be washed away. So, as always, motorists should use caution when traveling."

Street Maintenance Superintendent Dennis Hudnall said trucks have been loaded with salt and crews have been put on standby. "We're ready to go," Hudnall said. He said currently the biggest issue is the changing weather forecast. "It's a moving target," added Hudnall.

Media questions about the city's pre-treatment efforts should be directed to Todd Robertson (484-2167) or Dennis Hudnall (568-9503).
