O'boro schools offering texts to keep parents up-to-date in emergencies

Posted: Updated:

Owensboro Public Schools will be texting parents and the community with important news.

Parents can sign up by texting 'OPS Alerts' to 99000.

This free alert messaging system will allow the school district to notify parents, students, and teachers of school closings and safety emergencies only.

"It allows me to know where I'm at, what exactly is going on with the school. So if something happens, some status change, I can get alerted right away," parent Mark Dohrenwend said.

14 News is told 500 people have already signed up.
