Buschon creates bill to reduce federal spending by cutting foreign aid

INDIANA (WFIE) -

As Congress faces another deadline on spending cuts and taxes, Indiana Congressman Larry Buschon has introduced a measure to reduce federal spending by cutting foreign aid.

The 8th District Republican told 14 News the Invest in America First Act would prohibit non-military foreign aid from going to wealthier countries like China.

"For some of the countries, we're giving them money for programs that they should be able to support themselves, and then we borrow money from them. It makes no sense. It absolutely makes no sense," Buschon said.

The congressman says the bill is not related to the sequestration deadline next month and that he introduced a similar bill in the last Congress session.

Besides China, Mexico, India and Russia are among the countries with a gross domestic product of over $1.5 trillion receiving the most U.S. foreign aid.
