OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

A free weather webinar is happening tonight in Owensboro.

It's being hosted by the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency, and is open to the public.

Tonight's webinar starts at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at the Daviess County Courthouse in the Emergency Operations Center.

It's a Basic Weather Spotter Training Class.

Unlike last week's Elite Class, tonight's will teach some of the basics that will prepare you for any future Elite Spotter Classes.

The goals of the Basic Spotter Webinar are to understand weather patterns and learn how to report and identify severe weather.

You'll also cover topics such as the criteria for severe weather.

The webinar will be shown from the National Weather Service's website.

Rick Shanklin and Mike York will be the instructors producing the webinar from Paducah.

After the program, you'll have an opportunity to ask questions.

The Daviess County Weather Spotters will also be at tonight's webinar.

They've been through these classes themselves and are looking forward to adding to their group that helps keep the community safe.

If you'd like to attend tonight, you're encouraged to call the EMA to reserve a seat.

That number's 270-685-8448.
