The Spencer County Sheriff's Office will soon have a new K-9 unit.
Deputy Justin Hester says his canine partner will be arriving soon from Slovakia. Hester says the department's former dog has a tumor, and is now retired.
Local businesses have donated thousands of dollars to get the new dog and the department is very thankful.
"The dog costs almost $15,000. So, without, you know, people making donation, this wouldn't be possible. Having a dog really cuts down on man time, as far as searching for people, we're trying to find drugs, or anything like that. I mean, it's a really good asset to have," Hester told 14 News.
Hester says the new K-9 will undergo six weeks of training in Evansville before hitting the streets.
