VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

Indiana State Police say a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of an Evansville man on various drug charges.

State police say around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night, a trooper stopped 19-year-old Kyshaum Pegue of Evansville on U.S. 41 at Riverside Drive for having a defective license plate light.

Troopers say they detected a strong odor of marijuana when approaching Pegue's van. During a search of the vehicle, trooper say they found a backpack containing three different types of legend drugs and around two grams of what is believed to be synthetic marijuana. Troopers also found a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Pegue was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.

Pegue is charged with three counts of possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana, and possession of synthetic canabinoids.

State police say they are still investigating.
