1 medic dies following ambulance crash in Indy

Authorities say a medic has died after a car collided with an ambulance in downtown Indianapolis.

WISH-TV and the Indianapolis Star report officials announced the medic's death at a news conference Saturday. The other medic remained in critical condition.

The accident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. a few blocks north of the Indiana Statehouse. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Linda Jackson says the impact caused the ambulance to roll onto its side and slide into an unoccupied parked vehicle, trapping both medics inside.

No one else was in the ambulance.

Police say the traffic signal for the other vehicle was flashing red and the ambulance had the right of way.

The other vehicle's driver was taken to the hospital for a blood test.
