EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

After touring Berry Plastics in Evansville, Indiana Senator Dan Coats gathered with the party faithful Friday night at the Annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

Over 200 people turned out for the event, in support of Vanderburgh County's Republican Party.

Senator Coats, Congressman Larry Bucshon, State Treasurer Richard Mourdock and the Mayor were among those who stopped by to mingle and discuss some of the key political issues, both in Washington and Indiana.

The Congressman said job creations is the big topic, while Senator Coats' speech focused on national spending.

"No matter how much we tax, we're not going to solve our spending problem," says Senator Coats. "And so we need to look at how we can cut the size of government to the point where we can have an efficient, effective government like we've done."

"The biggest issue is still the economy and job creation," says Congressman Larry Buschon. "The unemployment rate is still too high, the economy is not growing and we've gotta get that back on track and get people back to work."

Immigration and gun control were some of the other big topics discussed Friday night.
