Operation Purple is back this summer

The National Military Family Association supports a camp called Operation Purple every summer that brings together kids of military families.

But this summer their funding has been cut drastically meaning not as many kids will be able to attend.

Operation Camp Purple is the week of July 14 every summer at Camp Carson just outside of Princeton.

The kids that attend all have one thing in common one of their parents is currently deployed for military duties.

14News covered the camp last year and can tell you it's a true bonding experience for the campers.

The camp is for kids 7 to 15.

Officials with Camp Carson say they've started their own group to try and raise local funding so the kids can return this summer.

"We're trying to secure some corporate sponsors for each cabin just to make sure we can reach and fill those other 80 beds with families who need that opportunity," says Mark Scoular, Camp Carson Director. "During that week, all the kids that are there, all 150 of them all get each other's world. they know their fear, their worries, their concerns."

Individuals or corporations can sponsor a cabin by contacting the main office.
