High School swimmer inspires after double lung transplant

BOONVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A Warrick County High School student set to receive some major recognition a little later Friday night.

He's a member of the Boonville swim team.

Back in the pool this year after a double lung transplant.

Noah James is a junior and recently found out he's been picked to represent the state of Indiana for a national honor, The National High School Spirit of Sport Award.

It recognizes an athlete or coach, someone who works with high school athletics who goes above and beyond or who's overcome some kind of challenge.

As for Noah, he's battled back quite a bit.

Right now he's at St. Louis Children's Hospital being treated three times a day for RSV, something that could be very dangerous since Noah received a new set of lungs just this past June.

He didn't let that huge hurdle stop him though.

Noah was back on the Boonville swim team when the season started in the fall.

Friday night, he'll be congratulated for his accomplishments by fans before the basketball game against North Posey.

"I mean, he could have given up," says Rob James, Noah's father. "He had, by all rights, he could have just laid down, said I've had a rough life and that's me. He didn't feel sorry for himself, and he got back in the water. As a dad and a coach, I was very impressed and still amazed that he can do what he does right."

Friday night is the Organ Donation Awareness game and even though Noah is in the hospital, he will still be there in a different way.

He'll be joining the festivities at Boonville's gym, thanks to the Internet.
