HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

As part of her duties as Miss Illinois, Megan Ervin stopped by a Herrin school to teach the importance of healthy habits.

Students at Our Lady Mount Carmel School were all ears as they listened to Megan talk about her platform "The Heptathlon of Healthy Eating Habits."

Ervin tours the state promoting her personal service platform.

"I really have passion for it," said Megan Ervin. "I think I connect with young adults and small children and I think we just have a fun time and when you are having fun with what you're doing, and my whole purpose is to get them to enjoy physical activity therefore they will want to do it on their own."

She says it's best to start early if you want to live a healthy lifestyle.

But the day wasn't all just sitting and listening, students were up on their feet doing zumba.

Another way Ervin says helps promote a healthy lifestyle.
