Several hundred people turned out to protest Mountaintop removal at the Kentucky State capitol today.
Demonstrators walked toward the State house in what has became an annual Valentine's Day tradition.
Protesters want legislation that would move the state away from coal-powered energy.
In addition, they want better working conditions for workers in the Kentucky coal mining industry.
Mountaintop Mining is controversial because it clears forest land and blasts away rock to get to the coal.
The dirt, rock and rubble are often dumped in nearby valley's.
