LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Traffic on Interstate 64 is flowing again after a semi burst into flames and then a vehicle wrecked into an abandoned car.
According to Shelbyville police, the fire started around 7 a.m. Thursday on I-64 west near Exit 36 in Shelby County.
Shelby County Dispatch said there was an issue with the semi caused the vehicle to catch fire in the right shoulder. Shortly after the fire started an abandoned vehicle parked on the interstate was hit by another vehicle.
Both lanes of westbound traffic were shut down and traffic was detoured from the 43 mile marker to U.S. 60.
A large quantity of diesel fuel was spilled onto the interstate during the fire causing a Hazmat situation. Disaster Emergency Services were called to the scene to clean up the fuel.
Westbound I-64 was reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
