EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Red Cross of Southwest Indiana is sending a volunteer to help with the relief effort in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

An EF-4 hit the area Sunday night, destroying hundreds of homes

Donald Day is heading out to help with bulk distribution. An 8 year volunteer, he has been all over the country serving where needed.

The devastation is so great, there is a lot of work for volunteers to do.

"Because you've got houses destroyed, you've got water and food that needs to be delivered, so it just depends on what happens and where they need me," Day said.

The Red Cross headquarters in Hattiesburg was also destroyed in the storm, so volunteers will be working from a mobile operations base.
