Gengelbach retires from North Posey

North Posey High School Varsity Football Coach Carl "Joe" Gengelbach has officially announced his retirement effective at the end of 2012-2013 school year.  Coach Gengelbach graduated from Tell City High School in 1965, and he played football for four years at University of Evansville graduating in 1969.  

Coach Joe became Head Football coach of the Vikings in 1970. His record for the past 42 years remains 256 wins, 193 losses and 1 tie.  Under the guidance of Coach Gengelbach, the Vikings were PAC Champions 1981, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2011, 2012; Sectional Champions 1981, 1995, 1996, 2005; Regional Champions 1981, 1995, 2996, 2005, Semi-State Champs 2005, State Runner-up 2005.  He had two undefeated regular seasons in 1996 and 2012.  He was inducted into the Indiana State Football Hall of Fame in March, 2000.

He has coached 43 All-State Players; he was the IFCA President 1986-1987.  Coach was named Region 9 Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2005.  He coached the South's team in the Indiana State North/South All Star game in 1982 and 1997.   Coach Gengelbach was also the School's Athletic Director, 1980 – 1994.

    Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says a group met with a project consultant and some think Roberts Park might be the perfect location. There's plenty of space and with other sporting facilities near the site, could be used to attract out of town swimming tournaments.
