Leaders of Clarksville Department of Electricity blame human error for a mistake that caused customers to pay extra on their bills.
Company leaders said a routine assessment by TVA discovered a data entry error in December. By then, customers had been charged about $2 extra on each bill for the previous 15 months.
Now, about 55,000 customers will receive a refund of about $30.
"The last thing I want to do is to send out a bill that's incorrect, but it's important for us and we're going to make it right now, and we're going to put the things in place so it won't happen again," said CDE Superintendent Brian Taylor.
Taylor said CDE had procedures in place to prevent such an error, but now they've added more to prevent any further problems.
Customers can expect to see a credit on their February bill, and the company also plans to mail refund checks to customers no longer with the company.
