USI steps up to help disabled workers

Posted: Updated:

The Business Leadership Network has more than 50 chapters nationwide and now it's coming to the Tri-State.

The Business Leadership Network is a group for companies looking to hire those with disabilities and it also provides the businesses, big or small with a pool of potential hires.

USI's College of Business is now starting a local chapter and they're looking for companies to join that want to tap into those resources.

One faculty member tells 14News it's really about debunking common misconceptions.

"They can't do the job because they're in a wheel chair or they can't do the job because of whatever reason they may have," says  Nancy Kovanic.  "I didn't realize how difficult it was for an individual with a disability to get past the interview phase and get a job when they're qualified."

An informational meeting is coming up on Tuesday, February 12th at 8 a.m.

It will be at USI's Business & Engineering Center, in the Romain Board Room. That's Room #3024.

The meeting is free, but people are encouraged to RSVP. To make a reservation, call Franka Siscel at (812) 454-0990.
