Pedro Alvarez singled home a pair of runs in the first inning, and the Pittsburgh Pirates ended Mat Latos' streak of 21 regular-season starts without a loss, beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 on Tuesday night.

A person with knowledge of the situation says the Arizona Diamondbacks and second baseman Aaron Hill have agreed to a new three-year, $35 million contract.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the deal had not been publicly announced.

The 30-year-old infielder hit .302 with 26 home runs and 85 RBIs last season. He came to Arizona as part of a trade with Toronto in August 2011 and was a big part of the team's stretch run that won the NL West title that year. He signed a two-year, $11 million contract following the 2011 season and was set to earn $5.5 million this year.
