INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WFIE) - -

More than 400 troops from the Indiana National Guard are being called up for Duty in Egypt.

For the last 31 years, American soldiers have helped patrol the border between Egypt and Israel.

And Indiana is about to do its part in a 9 month mission.

"When you think of soldiers being deployed, you think of Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt never comes to mind," says Sgt Major Jack Hewitt of the Indiana National Guard. "This is the first time the Indiana National Guard has sent a battalion size element for this mission."

Demonstrations in Egypt have recently turned violent as people celebrated the second anniversary of the revolution that ushered in democratic reforms.

The troops will head to Egypt sometime this summer.
