Buss breaks Illinois single season mark

Tyra Buss, the Mt. Carmel High School junior basketball standout, and verbal commit to Indiana University has broken the Illinois single-season scoring record of 1,202 points, previously held by Brittany Johnson (Olney, IL '06-'07 season). Buss is now at 1,217 points for the season. Tyra now has the 1st, 4th and 7th most points in a season in Illinois history.

Tyra Buss broke the free throws made in a career record for Illinois on February 6th. Currently Tyra's record is at 870 free throws made and counting, on pace to end up at least 2nd in United States girls basketball history. Buss is also on track to break many other career records including the career scoring record of 4,031 points. Buss is currently 3rd in Illinois history with 3,363 points. Tyra is 668 from Brittany Johnson's '03-'07 career record numbers and Buss still has the rest of this years postseason and her senior season to reach the record. Buss has never scored less than 1,025  points in a season. Tyra Buss is on track to score more than 4,500 career points, that would be 2nd most ever United States Girls Basketball History.

Mt. Carmel beat Harrisburg last night in the Regional Championship game 75-41 at Hamilton County High School in McLeansboro, IL. This is the Lady Aces' 3rd straight Regional Championship. The Sectional Semifinal game will be February 11th at 7:30pm central standard time in Newton, IL. The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces are now 31-0.
