Modern Home Tours is coming back to Silicon Valley as part of their Spring 2013 national tour on Saturday, March 23rd. Residents will get the opportunity to explore some of the coolest examples of modern architecture and interior design, right here in the Valley, on the 2013 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour.
The self-guided driving tour will feature six to ten architecturally progressive and contemporary homes that exemplify modern living in the peninsula and into Silicon Valley. See first hand how homes incorporate the principles of Modernist thinking with cutting edge building science and sustainable techniques. It is craft, science, and talent all coming together to create a dwelling that completely fits a modern lifestyle.
The 2012 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour featured local architects such as Joseph Eichler, Richard Neutra, Joseph Bellomo, Bohin Cywinski Jackson, Sagan Piechota, and Arcon Construction Design Build. Local Realtor and modern architecture enthusiast, Candace Levers, has signed on as the 2013 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour local consultant. She says that while Silicon Valley is famous for being the birthplace of electronic innovation, it is also home to some of the most diverse architecture in the country.
“It is really fascinating to see such diversity in one place,” says Levers. “There are architectural styles for everyone’s liking, across all genres: Victorian, Craftsman, Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial, Traditional, and, of course, the beloved Contemporary and Modern. The Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour is the ideal vehicle to showcase the wonders and innovations of the modern architecture in one of the most modern, innovative communities in the world.”
Vision Literacy, a Santa Clara County-based non-profit focused on providing comprehensive adult and family literacy education services, has been named as the 2013 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour partner. Lever is a volunteer board member for the group and says the union of Modern Home Tours and Vision Literacy is a perfect partnership.
Says Levers: “Vision Literacy is one of the most innovative literacy programs in the nation. Our tagline is ‘Partners Creating Opportunities,’ and we can’t think of a better company to partner with than Modern Home Tours. One-in-five people are functionally illiterate, a staggering statistic that holds true even in the hi-tech world of Silicon Valley. The funds raised through the 2013 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour home tour will help make the dream of literacy a reality for individuals and families who reside right in the communities where the tour homes are located.”
Participating homes will open their doors for viewing from 11AM – 5PM on Saturday, March 23, in and around Silicon Valley. Tickets are $30 in advance; $40 on the day of the tour, available at designated locations. All are invited. Kids under 12 are free.
