LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

National signing day is not just for football players.

There were other sports that had players sign on Wednesday.

The Lee County Lady Trojans had four players sign college scholarships.

Sweeper Sarah Sheffield and forward Carson Taylor are the first Lee County girls soccer players to sign Division I scholarships in high school.

Sheffield is going to play at Troy University and Carson Taylor has signed with Jacksonville State.

Forward Nicole Polk will play for Mel Heinz at Valdosta State.

Keeper Danielle Brendel will be patrolling the net at Columbus State.

"Carson and I are the first persons from Lee County to play Division I soccer straight out of high school. It is really exciting to be able to do this for our school. It is a new step," said Sarah Sheffield.

"The coaches are awesome. The players are great and they took me in," said Danielle Brendel.

Lee County girls soccer team opens the season February 19 at Americus-Sumter.
