A Quincy alderman wants the western Illinois city to stop waiting for the state to enact a concealed-carry law and just enact its own - although he acknowledges the local ordinance wouldn't be enforceable.
The Quincy Herald-Whig (http://bit.ly/YaBybe ) reports that Alderman Mike Rein asked Quincy's law department to draft an ordinance.
Rein says it would have no legal authority because Illinois, at least for now, prohibits people from carrying concealed weapons. But he says it would set a "good example" for the rest of the state.
In December, a federal appellate court panel ruled Illinois' concealed carry ban was unconstitutional and gave lawmakers 180 days to write a law legalizing it. Attorney General Lisa Madigan is appealing the ruling, but the deadline remains.
