They say, when you know more about your ancestors, you often come to know more about yourself.
Local author Carolyn Howard wants to help you in your own search. She is teaching a workshop for beginner genealogists. The emphasis will be on using free resources to learn about your family's history, things like: census records, birth, marriage and death certificates, and cemetery locations.
If you hit a dead end, you can start digging deeper with land records, the social security death index, and even past tax records.
Do you want to know more? The workshop is happening this week on Thursday night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Harrison College, room #102.
It's free and open to the public. Call 812-454-4712 for more information.
