USI students provide free tax help

USI student volunteers will provide free income tax assistance. It's through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The university says it's a great experience for students and a real savings for taxpayers.

This program starts Wednesday, February 6 and will continue through April 10.

The university says they have nine students enrolled in the program, meaning they'll be able to help about 16 taxpayers per night.

This program provides help to those with low-to-moderate income at no cost. The sessions will be held by appointment only.

They're in room 1004 in the USI Business and Engineering Center.

They're on the following Wednesdays:

  • February 6, 13, 20, and 27;
  • March 6, 20, and 27;
  • and April 3 and 10.

You need to bring your tax information, a photo ID, and social security cards for yourself and your dependents.

To make an appointment, call the USI College of Business at 812-464-1718.

There will be two sessions each night one at 5 p.m. and one 6:45 p.m.

The appointments typically takes 90 minutes to two hours to complete.

You must be present to sign your returns.
