Great Central U.S. ShakeOut scheduled for Thursday - 14 News, WFIE, Evansville, Henderson, Owensboro

Last-minute preparations underway for earthquake drill

Posted: Updated:

The Great Central U.S. Shakeout will take place Thursday, and Daviess County emergency officials are encouraging residents to take part.

As you might know from the other Shakeout stories 14 News has brought you, February is Earthquake Preparedness Month.

Officials in Daviess County have been busy making sure people are prepared for the drill.

The Emergency Management Agency has sent out drill forms to schools, nursing homes, and businesses encouraging them to take part in the drill on Thursday at 10:15 a.m.

Once they do that, they'll send the form back to the office so that officials can track participation and offer any other information to help prepare for an earthquake.

According to the EMA, out of the 2.5 million people that are registered for the Shakeout, Kentucky has the second highest amount participating.

Right now, it's just behind Indiana.

14 News spoke with emergency officials, and the last big earthquake felt in Owensboro was nearly five years ago, but they want to remind people that these can happen anywhere and anytime.
