University of Southern Indiana senior center Keith DeWitt (High Point, North Carolina) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles' wins over sixth-ranked Bellarmine University and McKendree University. The honor is the first of the year for DeWitt and the third for a USI men's basketball player this year.
DeWitt was dominating in USI's 62-49 win over Bellarmine last Thursday, adding six blocked shots to his 18 points and 12 rebounds. He also dished out four assists, while shooting 75 percent from the field (6-of-8) and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
The win over the sixth-ranked Knights also marked the Eagles' third victory over a top-10 team in the last three weeks.
The High Point, North Carolina, native finished the week with another impressive performance at McKendree Saturday. DeWitt dropped in a team-high 20 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out three assists. He shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the field to lead USI to a 78-68 decision over the Bearcats.
For the week, DeWitt averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, and 3.5 assists. He shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the field and 66.6 percent from the line (8-of-12). The back-to-back double-doubles were the third and fourth of the season for DeWitt.
USI (16-3, 9-2 GLVC) welcomes Lewis University (12-7, 6-5) to the Physical Activities Center Thursday before hosting the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (14-5, 9-2) Saturday. UW-Parkside, who plays at Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday, starts this week tied with USI for first in the GLVC East Division.
