EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
The Canteen Service Company has purchased the assets of a 61-year-old Evansville business.
The Fischer Candy Company first began providing wholesale concession services for the Evansville region in 1952.
Bob and Edna Fischer founded the snack concession business and later added full-line vending and office refreshments to their portfolio of services offered. The Fischer's children…sons Randy and Tom and their daughter, Karen Whitehead, have all been active in the operation of the business.
Since 1979 Fischer Candy Company has been located on Evansville's north side at 2130 Bergdolt Road.
The Canteen Service Company is also locally owned and has had a food service management and full-line vending business presence and operation base in Evansville for many decades.
The Canteen Service Company franchise is headquartered in Owensboro, Kentucky, provides services to over 55 counties in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee and also has operations bases in Vincennes, Indiana along with Louisville, Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, Kentucky.
"We have long admired and respected The Fischer Candy Company as a competitor", says Keith Sharber, Canteen's Vice President. Sharber added, "The Fischer Candy Company name has always been synonymous with quality products and service along with an impeccable business reputation. We will honor and perpetuate the Fischer Candy Company reputation as an addition to our existing business partnerships in the Evansville marketplace."
Canteen will consolidate its Evansville base of operations into the Bergdolt Road facility.
While the Fischer family is stepping away from the vending, wholesale candy and coffee business…Canteen was happy to retain a staff of 14 individuals.
The wholesale segment of The Fischer Candy Company business was not part of Canteen's acquisition.
Ferdinand, Indiana based RDM Sales & Service is acquiring that portion of the business.
