VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -
Deputies say information that an Evansville man was dealing narcotics from his home while on electronic home detention led to his arrest and several drug charges.
On Saturday around 4:50 p.m., the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputies went to the 4000 block of Covert Avenue in regards to a narcotics complaint. The sheriff's office had received information that 24-year-old Gwayne Arthur Scott Jr. was dealing narcotics from his residence while on electronic home detention.
When deputies arrived at the house and knocked, Scott answered the door, let the deputies in, and consented to a search of his residence.
As the deputies were conducting the search, Scott informed them he had a handgun and some marijuana reside in his bedroom. They located a loaded handgun and a small amount of marijuana under Scott's pillow along with Scott's Indiana Identification card.
Deputies also located a safe in his bedroom. They say inside that safe, was a loaded handgun along with several small baggies packaged with several pills; a marijuana grinder; and $9,850 cash.
Deputies were able to identify the pills as a controlled narcotics substance which Scott did not have a prescription for.
The deputies ran a computer check on the handgun and confirmed it was stolen. Deputies located several other controlled narcotics in Scott's bedroom.
Deputies also searched the kitchen where they located digital scales with marijuana residue and materials used to package the marijuana for sale.
During the course of the investigation, several subjects stopped by Scott's residence with cash in hand to purchase narcotics from Scott.
Scott was placed under arrest and transported to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center and booked in on these charges:
• Dealing In A Schedule I, II, III Controlled Substance – CL A Felony • Possession of Marijuana – Prior – CL D Felony • Maintaining a Common Nuisance – CL D Felony • Received Stolen Property – CL D Felony • Possession of Paraphernalia – CL A Misdemeanor
