ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A highly-debated ordinance
approved last month would have given future Rossford city council members a 140
percent pay raise, but that is no longer the case.
The ordinance would have
increased council members' pay from $250 per month to $600 per month. Now, the
ordinance has been tabled.
The council members
approved the raise in January, noting that they are one of the lowest-paid
councils in northwest Ohio, and it has been more than 20 years since Rossford
city council received a raise.
But some council members
said the residents of Rossford should be the ones deciding on the raise.
"I don't think it's the
intent of our charter for us to approve an increase in such a significant
amount for the incoming council," said council member Robert Ruse. "I thought
it would be more if you're doing a cost-of-living increase of a couple percent.
That's more along the lines of what we should be enacting ourselves. This type
of change, I'd like to see the public do it."
The ordinance will go to
the finance committee, and may end up on the November ballot.
