Teen accused of murdering his mother, will be tried as an adult

Court adjourned in the arraignment of a Princeton, KY teen charged with the murder of his mother.

17-year-old, Adam Teems, will be tried as an adult on murder and attempted murder charges.

He remains in a juvenile detention facility in Bowling Green, KY on a $500,000 cash bond.

Teems can't be held with adult prisoners until he's 18.

The judge set a pretrial date for March. Teems is accused in the August shooting of his mother, and the attempted murder of his stepfather at their Dalton home.

Teems' stepfather is currently in a rehab facility in Nashville, TN.

Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Kathy Senter says Teems is being tried as an adult due to the violent nature of those charges.

"It does take quite a bit of time to get a murder case set for trial and get it prepared," says Senter.

"As of right now, the way our court docket is, we have trials set as far out as August and September of this year. So, I don't anticipate him actually being tried in 2013."
