Huntingburg man accused of impersonating armed police officer

Jasper Police arrested a man on Monday accused of impersonating an armed police officer. 

They say the suspect pulled over 27-year-old Oscar Lazaro in the O'Reilly Auto Parts store parking lot in Jasper for a traffic violation.

A man in the back of Lazaro's car, Jose Echebiria got out of the vehicle and was patted down by the alleged officer. After the search, Echebiria notice $260 missing from his wallet.

He called police and described the suspect's vehicle. That lead police to David Schmitt of Huntingburg.

During a search of Schmitt's home, they found the handgun that was believed to be used in the crime.
