Posted: Updated:

It's a day of celebration for the Evansville Police Department.

EPD officers were promoted, awarded, and new officers were sworn in on Monday.

Officers Blake Hollins, Anthony Aussieker, Drew Murray, Philip smith, Joshua Brewer, and Justin Wuertz stepped forward to receive their new badges and start their careers.

Included in the ceremony, 15 officers received awards for various acts of heroism while on duty and one officer was promoted to corporal.

"It's been a long time coming. A long process, about a year and a half. I was in wait. I was really looking forward and hoping that I would make it, and I made it. It was a blessing, and I'm very happy to be a part of the Evansville Police Department," new officer, Phillip Smith told 14 News.

The new officers said they were  excited to start their new jobs to protect and serve the community.
